Didgeridoo Crafting Campout

• All materials to craft your own agave didgeridoo (Hawai’i agave piece, hardwood mouthpiece, epoxy, wood lacquer, wood glue, sandpaper, everything you’ll need to craft a beautiful long lasting didgeridoo) 
• 2 'āina based dinners with what's grown on the land (taro, fruit, poi, 'ulu, all depends on what's in season at the time. There will be a propane cook top in case you need to heat up your personal food, prepare your food as much as possible ahead of time. The cook top will not be used for cooking but more so for heating food up if needed.
• Night time fire jam & community connecting (if there's enough firewood left)
• Pristine drinking spring water straight from the 'āina and fruit from the ‘āina (what’s ripe and available at the time)
• Shuttle ride to and back from the valley (meet at lookout)

• Tent, sleeping gear (please bring your own sleeping accomodations)
• If you have gardening gloves, please bring a pair in case you'd like to use them while hollowing your agave. Hands can get a little blistered from the process so always good to have in case.
• Please bring good shoes for hiking to protect your feet and maybe a pair of slippers for casual walks
• Be aware that there will be mosquitos so prepare accordingly, bring whatever you need to be comfortable in this regard
• Food & Drinks (Please bring any food or drinks you’ll need for the four days. Dinner will be provided for on Friday and Saturday. Bring snacks and whatever other provisions you need)
• Toiletries/towels (This is a rustic valley campout experience, there will be compost buckets for number 2, number 1 can be given back to the 'āina. Showers can be in the waterfall or river)
• There will be no electricity so bring your own headlights, solar candles, etc for lights inside your tent.

Flow is loose and just a general overview, all dependent on the timing it takes for each process.

Thursday 11/19

9-10am - First meetup time at lookout for access into valley. Set up camp, relax, enjoy nature, go to waterfall, etc

3-4pm - Second meetup time at lookout for late comers. We will leave at 4 so if you do end up coming later than 4 you will need to hike down yourself. If so, we can meet you at the entrance to the trailhead at the end of the beach.

*Very important to meet on time or you will need to walk all your gear down the hill into the valley. We can meet at the river mouth before crossing.

Friday 11/20

9am - Opening ceremony and lighting the fire

10am - Hollow agave (Most important step and one that needs the most attention and patience)

2pm - Break for lunch if needed (can snack during the process if need, stay hydrated!!)

3pm - Epoxy inside of agave

5pm - Glue mouthpiece on top agave, tune didgeridoo

7pm - Dinner, relax the rest of the night

Saturday 11/21

9am - Sanding/aesthetics on outside of didgeridoo

12pm - Wood finish on outside of didgeridoo

1pm - Food/beach/waterfall break

*Time to continue working on the outside of your didge if needed

6pm - Dinner

Sunday 11/22

9am - Breakdown camp (Can go spend the day at the beach or just relax)

12pm - Meet at river mouth to journey up the hill and out of the valley

*You are welcome to leave anytime you need to, just know that if you decide to go on your own time, you will need to trek back up the hill on foot

*Please be aware that there will not be a dedicated class/workshop on how to play the didgeridoo in this immersion as your didgeridoo will take a little time to cure before being able to play. There will be tips and tricks shared during the immersion as a starting point. And if there is some downtime, we can definitely all jam our didges together around the fire (if there's any wood left).

IMPORTANT -  We are working with the natural elements, fire, wind, soft wood etc. so come without expectation of how your didgeridoo will turn out because roughly 3 to 4 out of 10 people will burn some holes through the agave stalk. This is totally normal and actually expected somewhat. We will be able to patch the holes so just know that your didgeridoo will be perfect in it's only way, shape and form. And there may be some life lessons that arise through the process of creating your didgeridoo. All divine. Please keep in mind that the note/key the didgeridoo will be in after completion, is dependent on a few factors; (length & width of stalk). We can always tune the didgeridoo higher in pitch so choosing the best agave stalk for the pitch/note you would like will need some assistance. Some people want to feel each stalk before choosing, some want a specific key because they have other instruments in the same key, and some just want leave it up to the flow and process to choose the key/note it turns out to be. Either option is perfect, but if you’d like a specific key, we will find the right stalk for you.
